(Chilmark, MA) — Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. says he’s received numerous death threats since he accused Cambridge, Massachusetts Police Sergeant James Crowley of racial profiling during his controversial arrest on July 16th. Speaking to a small group at the Martha’s Vineyard Book Festival over the weekend, Gates said the threats forced him to change his cell phone number and email address. He added that he’s considering moving from his current residence. Gates said that on July 25th, someone posted signs reading “racist” and “shameful” outside his home. The threats seem to bolster Gates’ claims that race continues to sharply divide Americans.
