(Annapolis, MD) – Maryland is leading the nation when it comes to low-income students making academic progress. A new report from the watchdog group, Education Sector, revealed that fourth and eighth-grade students eligible for free or reduced meals raised their reading and math scores on the National Assessment of Education Progress test by 55 points since 2003. DC students ranked fourth on the list, improving their scores by 43 points. Virginia is ranked 40th even though students’ test scores were up by 16 points.
