Black Panther was a cultural phenomenon that broke records across the globe. The Ryan Coogler-directed film had the fifth biggest domestic opening of all time ($192 million). The Marvel movie was also the biggest opening for a Black director, bringing in more than F. Gary Gray’s The Fate of the Furious that opened with $98 million. The film surpassed Deadpool, which earned $132 million in its February 2016 opening and, among superhero films, Black Panther is second only to The Avengers three-day opening in 2012. The movie also saw a large audience across demographic lines with 37 percent Black, 35 percent White, 18 percent Latino and 45 percent female.

Therefore, it’s no shocker the legacy of Black Panther is continuing with a comic book series spin-off of one of our favorite characters.

Bustle.com reports Princess Shuri, T’Challa’s little sister and played by Letitia Wright in the film, is getting her own comic book series.

The series drops in October 2018 and will focus on Black Panther being lost in a mission in space. Shuri is next in line for the throne and is forced to step up for Wakanda. Bustle.com reports Marvel summarized the new series as, “Shuri is happiest in a lab, surrounded by gadgets of her own creation. She’d rather be testing gauntlets than throwing them. But a nation without a leader is a vulnerable one — and Shuri may have to choose between Wakanda’s welfare and her own.”

This definitely sounds like another classic and will hold us over until the Black Panther sequel.
