The Washington Capitals’ achilles heel this season has been the fact that they take too many penalties. The Caps are second to just Tampa Bay with 298 penalties. Caps defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler joined The Team 980/95.9 FM’s The Brian Mitchell Show w/ Scott Linn to discuss the team’s penalty struggles.

“That’s been the problem the whole season. We’ve been taking too many penalties,” said Siegenthaler “That kind of kills us sometimes. We just got to make sure we don’t kill ourselves with those penalties.”

The defenseman also noted that things can get feisty down on the ice, but instead of overreacting, “you just have to control your emotions.” Siegenthaler also discussed Monday’s lost to the Sabres, and deemed they didn’t play bad, but they need to do more to get back on the right track.

“We have to play a full 60-minute game. If we play a 60-minute game, we can beat everybody,” Siegenthaler expressed.

The Capitals are back in action Thursday when they play host to a struggling Red Wings team.
