Raymond Woods: The More Better Man

Source: Raymond Woods: The More Better Man / Ron Thompson

I have many fond memories of Raymond Woods aka The More Better Man during his career at WOL. He used a spray bottle with water on his vinyl records to deaden the scratches of those rare fifties and sixties recordings. His ad lib on commercial copy was legendary. The man was sharp as a tack when it came to stepping out to host many of his sold out cabarets. The More Better Man loved his family and his radio family. He was especially proud of his service to his country as a United States Marine. He would often kid me that as a member of the Air Force, I was just a glorified bus driver. More Better wanted to show honor and respect to the many African Americans who fought and died in Vietnam. He began organizing a march from the WOL studio on 4th and H Street NE, DC to the Vietnam Memorial. More Better asked me to record one his marches when I was reporting news in the late 1980’s. It was one of my fondest memories.
