Doc and Galdi: Terry McLaurin Talks Haskins, Super Bowl, and Redskins #2 Pick

Terry McLaurin, live from Super Bowl LIV Radio Row, joins Doc and Galdi first talking about what his Super Bowl experience down in Miami has been like thus far. McLaurin loves the atmosphere and the fact that fans come from all around the world to enjoy this phenomena, that is the Super Bowl.

‘Scary Terry’ doesn’t refrain from telling Doc and Galdi that there have been a couple of instances where he’s really thought to himself ‘I can play at a high level in this league’.

“The game against the Eagles, my first touchdown and to be able to run away from the defense…and the contested catch against the Bears.”

McLaurin had one of the best rookie seasons by a Washington Football Team wide receiver in franchise history, reeling in 58 receptions for 919 receiving yards, second to Washington Football Team great Gary Clark. He also scored seven touchdowns as well. However, McLaurin doesn’t want to dwell on what he’s already accomplished. He still believes he has a lot more to prove. He credits Kobe Bryant’s ‘Mamba Mentality’ as what motivated him to seek and do more.

“Kobe may not have been my favorite player growing up, but the things you could not deny. One, his work ethic and two, his competitive drive. Those two things are something I live by. I want to try to compete at all times and I’m not hanging my hat on what I’ve already done. Going into next year that competitive spirit I’m going to try to continue to build on and jus that work ethic has always been engrained in me, but I feel like I can take it to another level going forward.”

The second half of the season, especially in the final two games of the season, Dwayne Haskins showcased what the Washington Football Team saw in him when they drafted him 15th overall, a big quarterback with a strong arm and play-making ability. Over the last two games, the offense really started to click and McLaurin credits Haskins for being able to take reigns of the offense and “put his own personality on it”.

“I feel like he showed some positives towards the end of the year,” McLaurin said. “Just the way he started to change the way he prepared, payed attention more to the minute details, and the way he tried to carry himself onto the field to be a leader for our offense as a rookie, and not only our offense but as a team. We took that as a positive, so I think he needs to build on that and come back even stronger for year two.”

McLaurin also chimes in on what the Washington Football Team should do with the number two pick in April’s Draft. ESPN recently ranked the Washington Football Team’s rookie class as the most productive in the NFL so he trusts the Washington Football Team to make the right decision, but he did not shy away from giving his two cents on his former teammate.

“I’m a big Chase Young fan, not just because he was my teammate at Ohio State, but as a football fan,” McLaurin continued. “Just to see the way he dominated his opponents each and every week, week in and week out. I think he would be a great asset to our team, and not just our team, but any team in the league. He’d be a day one starter, I believe. I feel like he could be up there with both Bosa brothers.”
