VIA WJLA:

HYATTSVILLE, Md. – The crew of ABC’s ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ is in the D.C. area and they are tackling two projects at once.

Hyattsville homeowners Nikema and Tamara Tripp got the surprise of a lifetime. “We did not know anything,” said Nikema. Tamara said, “It’s just exciting for all of us. We’re so excited.”

Their front yard was quickly covered in a sea of blue and gold as hundreds of volunteers cheered on the hard working family. As you will see in an upcoming episode of the ABC hit show, the couple has put the well-being of the neighborhood kids above their own living conditions.

The Tripps welcome kids into their home for game night and on an occasional Friday nights, they load about 40 kids on a bus and take them to safe and fun activities — while footing the bill.

“They’re good kids and it’s good to see, like you know, kids trying to do what’s good cause you see so much bad,” said Tamara.

“They just do so much for their community and I think we are all in agreement that they need a bigger space,” said Tracy Hutson, show designer.

Time Burch of Burch Builders Group is going to help give them the bigger space. He is one of the builders on the project. He says the opportunity to give back is one he couldn’t pass up.
