(Berkeley, CA)  —  A Republican student group at a California college will go ahead with a bake sale that’s been called racist and discriminatory.  Shawn Lewis, president of Berkeley College Republicans, says the sale tomorrow at the University of California-Berkeley will have prices pegged to race, national origin and gender.

Lewis says the prices are a way to protest legislation that would permit California universities to take race and other factors into account in admissions.  At the sale, white men will pay two-dollars for treats, while Asian men will pay a dollar-50.  Latino men will be charged a dollar, black men will pay 75 cents and Native American men will fork over 25 cents.  All women will get a 25-cent discount.  The sale has been condemned by the university’s student government senate.
